Buckle Mutants - Time Walk -199X- (Single-Sided Tape, Self-Released), US

Here's a tape I know nothing about. Apparently Buckle Mutants were a band from New Castle, Pennsylvania that consisted of C.B. Book, Savdyabitamitalo and Squiz McFiz, but something tells me that this was mainly a one-man project. From what I can make up from the cover it was sent as some sort of demo to Ducktooth Tapes of which I've never heard either.

In any case it's a DIY product of home recordings and probably not many of these tapes were made. The music of Buckle Mutants is based on experimental guitar noises that are colliding with some deranged metal tunes all non-carefully packaged with a punk attitude. Probably it's a product of the 90's, but no year is stated on the cover. Anyhow, here are some more tunes from the far out fringes of American indie music that thrived on a damaged sound production and DIY expression without compromise. Maybe someone knows more about this project.

Some different tunes than usual. In some unusual times. Buckle up mutants! I will post more frequently the coming weeks.

  2. WOW! I guess you never know what you'll get when you Google your own name. I wrote all these tunes, other than the lyrics for "Trouble", which are Bob Dylan lyrics, and Irecorded this on a Fostex 4-track and pretty much just threw it together; you can tell by the production and lyrics, LOL!. This was from about 1988. Ducktooth Tapes was either a label I made up or a made up label name of my buddy's from down the street. I sent a few of these out to random places hoping to be put on some random compilations, I got on a few, one even from Texas. I remember a getting a really cool review in Maximum Rock&Roll for it and even some orders from that review. I always thought my buddy Brian Johnson, may he rest in peace, wrote the review. I was in a few bands with Brian, Mrs. Wilson, notably, that would have done well if not for me being too young, unfocused and unsupported. Oh well, I have a decent demo of Mrs. Wilson that nobody has ever heard and it is some pretty darn good punk/hard core music. Brian wrote for a bunch of zines and published several too. Where did you get this tape? And, I've learned a lot and grown up a bunch since then, so I apologize for any offensive lyrics.

    1. Hi Chris! Thank you for the information, the music is great! It shows the intuitive nature of just wanting to create. Maybe unpolished, but inventive, humoristic and powerful!

I think the cassette caught my eye on Ebay, so I got it, but I had no idea what to expect from the music. I was happily surprised.

      Best wishes and thanks,

      Bence

  3. Hi Bence, Glad you like it!!! Funny that any of these still exist. Is thereAm any way you could remove my name and address from the photo here and on YouTube? The rest is fine but I'd rather not have that personal information out on the web. I appreciate it!!! Also, I did remember, DuckTooth Tapes was a fake label name I made up..or thought I made it up, LOL!

    1. Hi! I removed it from the text. I can change that cover. But Youtube can't be really replaced easily. I can delete it if you wish. Let me know

  4. Hi Bence, Dang, I'm really not into the address being on the photo/video. If you could remove that and repost it I'd be fine with that. Sorry for the trouble. Yet another oversight as a young kid, way before identity theft was a thing, but I should have gotten a P.O. Box or used a friend's.

    Thanks,
    Chris
